October is the ideal month to cross civilisations from Greece to the mysteries of the ancient Egyptians, when the autumn warmth is perfect for these magical ports-of-call.

With more time on land than ever before, begin your cruise with a two-night hotel stay in Athens for the capital’s many wonders, including the majestic Parthenon. Then head out of town on a drive to the monastery of Osios Loukas and Delphi on the slopes of Mount Parnassus. Next day, you’ll explore one of the greatest cities of the Mycenaean civilisation, Mycenae. The Greek amphitheatre of Epidaurus has acoustics so perfect it is said you can hear a pin drop from the highest tier, while Corinth was once one of the ancient world’s largest and most important cities, both visited on your way to board Aegean Odyssey in Piraeus.

At sea, you’ll call at Heraklion and see the Minoan Palace of Knossos in Crete to learn more about legendary labyrinth, then arrive in the Egyptian city of Alexandria for an overland trip to the capital, Cairo. During you 2-night stay here, you’ll see the Great Pyramid of Giza and wonder at the monolithic reclining Sphinx, visit the Egyptian Museum, and be able to explore the sites at Memphis and Sakkara.  On your way back to Piraeus, you’ll call in at Greek Island of Rhodes.
